{"id":65843,"date":"2023-02-16T17:54:51","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T06:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/total-fire-ban-declared-for-friday\/"},"modified":"2023-02-16T18:13:36","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T07:13:36","slug":"total-fire-ban-declared-for-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/total-fire-ban-declared-for-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Total fire ban declared for Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xmsonormal\">THE Country Fire Authority has declared tomorrow (Friday, February 17) a day of total fire ban in the Central fire weather district that includes Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast with a Fire Danger Rating of extreme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The declaration comes after weather forecasts predict temperatures in the high 30s and low 40s, combined with north-eastly winds up to 30kph during the day and gusting south westerly with an expected change in the evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cTomorrow\u2019s conditions could make it difficult for firefighters to supress a fire should one start; therefore, we are asking people to take heed of the Total Fire Ban conditions,\u201d CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">\u201cPeople need to be aware of the increased fire danger and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The restrictions mean that no fire can be lit in the open air, or remain alight between 12.01am tomorrow morning and 11.59pm that night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">A statement from the CFA advised that people \u201cshould also make sure they have access to more than one source of information\u201d in case of bushfire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">That includes ABC local radio or other designated emergency broadcasters, the VicEmergency App or the VicEmergency website &#8211; both available via <a href=\"http:\/\/emergency.vic.gov.au\">emergency.vic.gov.au<\/a>, the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226 or CFA or VicEmergency Twitter or Facebook pages.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Country Fire Authority has declared tomorrow (Friday, February 17) a day of total fire ban in the Central fire weather district that includes Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast with a Fire Danger Rating of extreme.
