{"id":66370,"date":"2023-03-12T04:00:11","date_gmt":"2023-03-11T17:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=66370"},"modified":"2023-03-12T08:10:38","modified_gmt":"2023-03-11T21:10:38","slug":"tenders-open-for-games-village-civil-works","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/tenders-open-for-games-village-civil-works\/","title":{"rendered":"Tenders open for Games village civil works"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EXPRESSIONS of interest (EOI) have opened for works associated with the Victoria 2026 villages being built in Geelong and elsewhere in regional Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>About 7,000 athletes and officials are expected to live across the four villages in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Morwell when the Commonwealth Games get under way in March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Development Victoria is seeking responses to the EOI for Commonwealth Games 2026 Villages Project Civil Works project, which will works including roads, services infrastructure and bulk earthworks) for athletes&#8217; villages and post-Games legacy housing.<\/p>\n<p>According to the tender listing on the Buying for Victoria website, roads and landscape will make up 40 percent of the works; followed by earthworks engineering at 20 per cent; land, buildings, structures and thoroughfares at 20 per cent; storm water drainage at 10 per cent; and water and sewer utilities at 10 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The state government says each Games village has specific requirements and the civil works across the sites could include bulk earthworks, installation of new drains and sewers, the relocation of power, gas and water, roads construction, general demolition, remediation and clearing works.<\/p>\n<p>In Geelong, the Games village will be built just south of Waurn Ponds railway station in Armstrong Creek.<\/p>\n<p>Civil contractors will have the opportunity to lodge their interest in a single location or across multiple project locations.<\/p>\n<p>Early works at each location are expected to begin later this year with village designs for each site under development.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re another step closer to seeing Victoria 2026 come to life and in a little over three years we&#8217;ll be taking regional Victoria to the world stage,&#8221; Minister for Commonwealth Games Delivery Jacinta Allan\u202fsaid.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a unique opportunity for local businesses and contractors to partner with us in creating modern, accessible, and energy efficient villages to host the best athletes in the Commonwealth.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Interested parties can register via the Buying for Victoria website at <a href=\"http:\/\/buyingfor.vic.gov.au\">buyingfor.vic.gov.au<\/a>, from which a shortlist of contractors will be invited to participate in a Request for Proposal process.<\/p>\n<p>The EOI closes at 2pm on March 28.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EXPRESSIONS of interest (EOI) have opened for works associated with the Victoria 2026 villages being built in Geelong and elsewhere in regional Victoria.
