{"id":66588,"date":"2023-03-21T04:00:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T17:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=66588"},"modified":"2023-03-16T09:57:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T22:57:00","slug":"volunteers-ahoy-ironman-70-3-to-return-to-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/volunteers-ahoy-ironman-70-3-to-return-to-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers Ahoy: Ironman 70.3 to return to Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ONE of Geelong&#8217;s biggest sporting events the &#8216;Ironman 70.3 Geelong&#8217; is making its return back to the Geelong Waterfront later this month, and preparations are heating up from a volunteer standpoint.<\/p>\n<p>The March 26 race will bring together more than 1000 athletes, including some of the top triathletes in the region for a grueling swim, bike and run &#8216;battle of the fittest&#8217; extravaganza.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66601\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66601\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66601 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/03\/KV-04705_61820-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1678836697\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event is set to bring 1000 athletes to the Geelong region.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Organisers are hopeful of attracting more than 400 volunteers, with positions available for people of all abilities and experiences including athlete check in, course marshalling and first aid.<\/p>\n<p>IRONMAN Regional Director Carl Smith said volunteer numbers had always been strong for the event and hoped plenty of enthusiastic and motivated people would join the team for 2023.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66602\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66602\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66602 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/03\/KoruptVision-KV-_87453-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1678836706\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66602\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">All volunteers will be provided with a shirt, refreshments and a donation to their community group.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;One of the key benefits provided to volunteers is financial support for those who are a part of a community group,&#8221; Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those who assist with IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong along with a community or sporting group are able to receive some financial support for their group which helps support the great work that they do in the community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of our volunteer positions are important to the successful running of the event and we&#8217;re very grateful for the ongoing support of the local community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66604\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66604\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66604 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/03\/KoruptVision-KV-_70483-1-600x380.jpg?_t=1678836712\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66604\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plenty of different positions are available for volunteers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On top of a donation to their chosen charity, event volunteers will be given an event shirt and refreshments throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>All volunteers will be allowed to pick what shifts, days and times are suitable to their needs, with any participation appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>For more, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ironman.com\/im703-geelong\">www.ironman.com\/im703-geelong<\/a> or email workforce-oceania@ironman.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ONE of Geelong&#8217;s biggest sporting events the &#8216;Ironman 70.3 Geelong&#8217; is making its return back to the Geelong Waterfront later this month, and preparations are heating up from a volunteer standpoint.
