{"id":66653,"date":"2023-03-16T04:00:24","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T17:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/memorial-golf-day-an-80000-success\/"},"modified":"2023-03-16T08:56:14","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T21:56:14","slug":"memorial-golf-day-an-80000-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/memorial-golf-day-an-80000-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Memorial golf day an $80,000 success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A HUGE community effort has helped to raise more than $80,000 for Geelong&#8217;s Hope Bereavement Care at the third annual Ryan Gatgens Annual Memorial Golf Day.<\/p>\n<p>Held on Sunday, March 12 at the Clifton Springs Golf Club, the event saw more than 1,500 connected locals come together to remember their friend Ryan Gatgens, a Drysdale local who tragically died in 2019 after a battle with mental health.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96162\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96162\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96162 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/RGGD0005-600x380.jpg?_t=1678916688\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The event was at the beautiful Clifton Springs Golf Club.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96154\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96154\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96154 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/RGGD0132-600x380.jpg?_t=1678916299\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96154\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Plenty of fantastic raffle items were on offer for attendees to bid on.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With favourable weather conditions, attendees enjoyed playing a 9-hole golf tournament, dancing to live music and explored new event additions like the twilight market and the extravagant lineup of food and beverage options.<\/p>\n<p>As shooting fireworks illuminated the sky to round off the night, event organiser Daniel Driscoll said the event would certainly go down as the most successful yet.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96157\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96157\" style=\"width: 359px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96157 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/RGGD0064-e1678916803814-359x380.jpg?_t=1678916806\" alt=\"\" width=\"359\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96157\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Close to 380 people took part in the golf tournament.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96160\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96160\" style=\"width: 401px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-96160 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/03\/RGGD0021-scaled-e1678916753583-401x380.jpg?_t=1678916755\" alt=\"\" width=\"401\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-96160\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Children enjoyed a host of kids activities including a putting area.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It all went really well\u2026 the 380 golfers turned up and there was plenty of kids, partners and others enjoying all aspects of the event,&#8221; Driscoll said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To raise $80,000 is fantastic\u2026 the team from Hope got up at the event to tell us about how much it helps them and where the funds go\u2026 it meant a lot when you hear all of that.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The fireworks were a massive success and they had Ryan lit up in lights as part of the display which was pretty touching for his friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The market was also very good and the food trucks and raffles sold really well&#8230;
