A NEW and exciting brand of music will take centre-stage in Geelong with four of the region’s finest string musicians preparing to host its inaugural concert later this month.<\/p>\n

The Geelong String Quartet, which features Geelong Symphony Orchestra musicians violinist Jamie Parker, violinist Eve Gu, violist Miriam Bell, and celloist Michaela Robb will amaze classical music enthusiasts on April 22 at St Luke’s Uniting Church in Highton in the group’s first performance as a group.<\/p>\n

“In this day and age with so much happening in the digital space, I really think that it’s more important now and ever to get out of the house and actually see live musicians,” first violinist Mr Parker said.<\/p>\n

“We hope to showcase that human aspect of the performance, where there are imperfections, where there are emotions and where there is a very real energy being exchanged.”<\/p>\n

The Geelong String Quartet will host its inaugural concert on April 22 at St Luke’s Uniting Church, Highton.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Beginning at 5pm, the two-hour concert will feature the works of notable composers of Johannes Brahms (String Quartet No. 1 in G Major, Op. 76) and Joseph Haydn (String Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 51).<\/p>\n

Based on the musicians’ abilities and a camaraderie that dates back to high school, the concert promises to be an exceptional evening of music.<\/p>\n

“These are the concerts that are going to spark something that can potentially grow big right here in Geelong,” Mr Parker said.<\/p>\n

“A lot of Melbourne orchestras will come down, which is great, but what about Geelong’s musicians? How do we build on Geelong’s classical music culture?<\/p>\n

“This concert will hopefully set us on a path for young musicians to want to get involved with classical music locally and have a structure for the youth to move up into these groups.”<\/p>\n

The Geelong String Quartet’s inaugural concert is free for all attendees; however, donations can be made upon entry to support local musicians.<\/p>\n

“We are aiming to raise $5000, and every contribution counts,” Mr Parker added.<\/p>\n

“At a standard concert, we would expect between 125 and 175 people to attend. If everyone who comes to our concerts donates $30, we could reach our goal.<\/p>\n

“Whether you can give a little or a lot, your generosity will make a difference in the lives of the musicians and audience members who will be touched by our future performances.”<\/p>\n

No future dates have been added by the group, but dependent on the turnout of this month’s concert, the Geelong String Quartet will consider forming a series of concerts in 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
