GEELONG residents with a disability, families and carers will have the opportunity to participate in a broader range of community events through the availability of the Marveloo at events and community sites.<\/p>\n
The portable, fully accessible Changing Places facility is available for hire through the City of Greater Geelong and aims to increase accessibility and inclusivity for people with disabilities, families and their carers.<\/p>\n
The facility includes a track hoist and adjustable adult change table, allowing residents to attend events with peace of mind and comfort.<\/p>\n
First installed in Geelong at Leisurelink in 2009, the Marveloo has been used at 10 sites across the region, including the Royal Geelong Show and the ‘”Ability Fest”, Australia’s first and only completely inclusive and fully accessible music festival.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said having the facility available for community events was a significant step forward in ensuring Geelong’s reputation as an accessible and inclusive city.<\/p>\n
“We all understand the importance of every community member feeling valued and, in part, that can be achieved by ensuring that everyone is able to come along and be a part of activities hosted in and around the city.<\/p>\n
“Initiatives of this nature mean that people will be able to attend events around our region and have access to safe, comfortable and dignified bathroom and change facilities.”<\/p>\n
Geelong deputy mayor Anthony Aitken welcomed the use of the Marveloo and strongly encouraged residents to consider how it might make their plans more inclusive.<\/p>\n
“As chair of the Council’s Access and Inclusion Committee I was a proud champion of the purchase of this unique community asset.<\/p>\n
“I encourage all event organisers in Geelong and immediate surrounds to consider how hiring a Marveloo from the council will make your event more accessible for people living with mobility constraints.”<\/p>\n
