{"id":71989,"date":"2023-05-11T04:00:23","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T18:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=71989"},"modified":"2023-05-11T09:15:47","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T23:15:47","slug":"popular-book-fair-turns-page-on-sixth-chapter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/popular-book-fair-turns-page-on-sixth-chapter\/","title":{"rendered":"Popular book fair turns page on sixth chapter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE sixth annual chapter of the St Bernards Parish Second-Hand Book Fair has closed with success, with more than 2,000 people gathering at Clairvaux Primary School to grab a reading bargain.<\/p>\n<p>Upwards of 10,000 books donated by the Greater Geelong community were up for grabs during Sunday&#8217;s book fair including children&#8217;s literature, sports books, biographies, cooking books, fiction, nonfiction, and plenty more.<\/p>\n<p>While wet weather tried to play a spoiler, St Bernards Parish member Peter Wills said the event far exceeded expectations and expressed his thankfulness to the community for embracing the event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72004\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72004\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72004 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG-0589-600x380.jpeg?_t=1683687746\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">There were plenty of books for the children to be happy about.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72002\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72002\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72002 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG-0583-600x380.jpeg?_t=1683687673\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lines were out the door to get into the fair.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While it was a wet and gloomy day, the event was very well supported&#8230; we had the biggest crowd we&#8217;ve ever had attend the fair.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve been growing the event every year and the community continue to support it in large numbers by either purchasing a book or donating to the fair through our drop off service each Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had all types of book genres, but crime was certainly a favourite\u2026 there was certainly something there for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We ended up selling about three quarters of the books on display and we are incredibly grateful for the immense support from the Geelong community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72000\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72000 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG-4252-600x380.jpeg?_t=1683687567\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The book fair turned the page on its sixth edition last Sunday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_72001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-72001\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-72001 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG-0582-600x380.jpeg?_t=1683687619\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-72001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A cake stall was provided by students from Sacred Heart College in Geelong.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A special cake stall as prepared by students of Sacred Heart College in Geelong was also a fan favourite, keeping all visitors happy and in the exploring spirit throughout the book fair.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Wills said all the funds raised from the event will help the St Bernards Parish with running community engagement programs and social groups during the next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE sixth annual chapter of the St Bernards Parish Second-Hand Book Fair has closed with success, with more than 2,000 people gathering at Clairvaux Primary School to grab a reading bargain.
