{"id":72011,"date":"2023-05-11T09:45:38","date_gmt":"2023-05-10T23:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=72011"},"modified":"2023-05-11T09:45:38","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T23:45:38","slug":"geelong-walks-for-parkinsons-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/geelong-walks-for-parkinsons-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong walks for Parkinson&#8217;s disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS of Geelong residents showed their determination to shine a light on Parkinson&#8217;s disease, gathering at Eastern Park Sunday morning for A Walk in the Park Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>Fight Parkinson&#8217;s chief executive officer Emma Collin was in attendance over the weekend to thank the more than 300 people who attended the event, revealing more than $9,000 had been raised prior to the walk, in Geelong alone.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 481px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG_8301_91006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"481\" height=\"321\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eastern Park again provided the site for A Walk in the Park Geelong.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;Without the support of the community, we wouldn&#8217;t be able to conduct a range of services that Fight Parkinson&#8217;s is able to offer to the wider community,&#8221; Ms Collin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the funds that were raised prior to the start of the day, were raised by those who undertook the walk, and that number will continue to rise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 524px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG_8213_36641.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"350\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fight Parkinson&#8217;s Emma Collin addressing the attendees.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>2023 marked the first year that Fight Parkinson&#8217;s, the state&#8217;s leading service provider for Parkinson&#8217;s disease, had co-ordinated proceedings in Geelong, after former organiser and the women who started the walk in 2018, Kirsten George, stepped away from the role.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 476px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/IMG_8261_48316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"476\" height=\"318\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Walk began at about 10.30am on Sunday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;None of this event would be able to go ahead without our dedicated volunteers and Kirsten&#8217;s leadership has been nothing short of amazing,&#8221; Ms Collin said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She continues to be an amazing supporter of A Walk in the Park, and other members of the community have stepped up and said we want to see this continue.
