{"id":72200,"date":"2023-05-11T13:23:09","date_gmt":"2023-05-11T03:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=72200"},"modified":"2023-05-11T13:25:37","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T03:25:37","slug":"clark-locked-in-for-cats-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/clark-locked-in-for-cats-debut\/","title":{"rendered":"Clark locked in for Cats debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFF product Jhye Clark will make his AFL debut tomorrow night in Geelong\u2019s Friday night blockbuster against Richmond at the MCG.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&#038;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FGeelong.Cats%2Fvideos%2F2129113673961748%2F&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=380&#038;t=0\" width=\"380\" height=\"591\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Cats confirmed via their social media channels this morning that the highly touted midfielder will make his first appearance in the hoops.<\/p>\n<p>But Clark and Cats fans will likely have to wait until selection tonight to discover if he plays in the first 22 or as the substitute.<\/p>\n<p>The 18-year-old was taken with the pick 8 in the 2022 NAB AFL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Clark collected 12 touches in a half of football against Southport at GMHBA Stadium last week playing predominantly through the middle of the ground, which followed a breakout 29 disposal, five marks, four tackles performance against Coburg at Piranha Park the week prior.<\/p>\n<p>The former Couta arrived at GMHBA Stadium from the Geelong Falcons where he was captain for the 2022 NAB League Boys season and the reigning best and fairest winner.<\/p>\n<p>He also led Vic Country during the national championships, where he finished runner-up to the number two overall pick Will Ashcroft in Larke Medal voting.<\/p>\n<p>Clark averaged 25 and 23 touches per game for the Falcons and VIC Country respectively and impressed recruiters as a hard-edged, highly competitive player who also earned NAB League Team of the Year Honours in 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QUEENSCLIFF product Jhye Clark will make his AFL debut tomorrow night in Geelong\u2019s Friday night blockbuster against Richmond at the MCG.
