District Football Netball season.<\/p>\n<p>The Belmont Lions Sports Club has revealed its new First Nation uniform which it will wear as soon as next weekend away game at Inverleigh.<\/p>\n<p>The uniform will also be worn in Round 9 against Corio and Round 11 against Anakie as a part of NAIDOC Week.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73624\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73624\" style=\"width: 297px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73624\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-1014x1024.jpg 1014w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-768x776.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-1521x1536.jpg 1521w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1707-2028x2048.jpg 2028w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73624\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The back of Belmont&#8217;s new First Nations uniform.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Designed by Wathaurong Co-operative representative and Wemba Wemba man David Flagg, the Lions\u2019 new uniform aims to depict a \u201cWarrior Spirit\u201d and features three main parts \u2013 the boomerangs, the gathering place and the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe connection for me is this club will be led out by Traditional Owners and other Aboriginal community members from the Wadawurrung land they play,\u201d Mr Flagg said.<\/p>\n<p>The seven boomerangs represent hunting or fighting when needed, showing strength and hardness, but are also used throughout ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Flagg said the circle with the six lines represents the gathering place, Winter Reserve; the Belmont Lions\u2019 home ground.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lines within the cycle represents the other members of the club that make up the connections and story of the Belmont Lions,\u201d Mr Flagg added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe outside of the inner circle represents the other clubs the Lions have to travel to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people symbols, the two within the top cycle, are to represent the Torres Strait and Aboriginal community warriors, and the bottom peoples\u2019 symbol represents the playing group and supporters.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73625\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73625\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73625\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-768x1151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-1024x1536.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-1366x2048.jpg 1366w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/05\/2H3A1715-scaled.jpg 1707w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Belmont players Mikali Harrison (left) and Tegan Edwards (right) are both stoked to wear the new uniforms.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe Lion in the middle represents the club as the connection for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wathaurong Gunditjmara Arrernte woman and netballer Tegan Edwards said this year\u2019s uniform was her favourite design to date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe storyline is there in the uniform, it is really nice<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a part of Belmont since I was three years old, I\u2019ve learnt to walk in these clubrooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be a part of a club like this that embraces our culture and our people like it does, it\u2019s really special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWearing uniforms like this, whether it be for Reconciliation Week or NAIDOC, it\u2019s the best feeling. I always say it\u2019s not just black fellas that miss out on this culture, everyone misses out on this culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing it embraced on this level and at the AFL level, it\u2019s a really strong and beautiful thing.
