{"id":75537,"date":"2023-06-18T04:00:01","date_gmt":"2023-06-17T18:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=75537"},"modified":"2023-06-14T16:34:38","modified_gmt":"2023-06-14T06:34:38","slug":"legacy-to-host-family-fun-day-in-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/legacy-to-host-family-fun-day-in-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Legacy to host family fun day in Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LEGACY Melbourne is giving Geelong residents the chance to learn more about services available to local veterans at its inaugural Geelong Family Fun Day.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday event, at Steampacket Gardens, will include educational stalls hosted by Geelong RSL, RSL Active Victoria, Invictus Victoria, Geelong Legacy, Defence and Veterans Legal Service and many other groups.<\/p>\n<p>The free event will also include a sausage sizzle, live music, face painting and a petting farm.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75538\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75538\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75538 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/06\/LegacyFamilyDay4_49818-600x380.jpg?_t=1686713246\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75538\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Face painting will be available on the day.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne Legacy Veterans Liaison Officer, Adam Kent said the event would provide locals with a space to learn, connect and feel safe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone has a link to the military in one way or another.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This community event is designed to create social connection and bring everyone together to learn more about what support is out there for those who need it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Many veterans and people affected from the military space don&#8217;t like to engage and talk about it, but something like this can be a new opportunity for them to have their voices heard.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The community is always so great on days like ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day, and this is another occasion for people to band together.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75540\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75540\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-75540 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/06\/LegacyFamilyDay5_50024-600x380.jpg?_t=1686713246\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-75540\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The free event will be the first held by Legacy in Geelong.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kent said the event will also aim to shed light on the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
