UPGRADES that will increase capacity and improve functionalities for recreational boaters have begun at Avalon boat ramp.<\/p>\n

The $1.8 million development works are part of the Victorian Recreational Boating Action Plan 2022-23 and include increased boat ramp car parking capacity and lengthening and rebuilding the jetty structure to improve overall boat launching capabilities.<\/p>\n

The upgrades aim minimise impact to surrounding native vegetation and includes a water sensitive urban design to reduce stormwater runoff impacts.<\/p>\n

“A $1.8 million upgrade is underway at Avalon boat ramp to make it easier for boaters to get out on Corio Bay or Port Phillip,” a Better Boating Victoria spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Funded by boaters’ registration and licence fees, the project will rebuild and extend existing jetties to provide more space for boats to be tied up, while the addition of wave screens will provide more protection alongside the structures.<\/p>\n

“The main carpark will be resurfaced and the existing overflow carpark formalised to provide an extra 25 parks big enough for your car and trailer.”<\/p>\n

From mid-June, fencing, no go zones and work equipment will be at the site. The boat ramp and beach access will be closed to the public for the duration of the works.<\/p>\n

With construction also underway at Kirk Point, boaters can launch at the St Helens boat ramp in Geelong or at Werribee South.<\/p>\n
