{"id":77879,"date":"2023-07-04T08:45:22","date_gmt":"2023-07-03T22:45:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=77879"},"modified":"2023-07-04T08:45:22","modified_gmt":"2023-07-03T22:45:22","slug":"wathaurong-crown-naidoc-award-winners","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/wathaurong-crown-naidoc-award-winners\/","title":{"rendered":"Wathaurong crown NAIDOC award winners"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE winners of the 2023 Wathaurong Community NAIDOC Awards were announced yesterday (July 3) at the NAIDOC Week Flag Raising and Community Day held at the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative.<\/p>\n<p>The awards ceremony and flag raising event marked the official start of NAIDOC Week, a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people.<\/p>\n<p>The winners included:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nedok Yoongga (Elder\/Respected Person) &#8211;<\/strong> Aunty Sandra Manning for her work in being a great role model for the community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ngarrwa Ngitj (Community Person) &#8211; <\/strong>Joint Winners \u2013 Jay Hickey and Nicole Kirby.<\/p>\n<p>Jay was recognised for his outstanding community support and engagement with people of all ages and from all walks of life.<\/p>\n<p>Nicole was cited for her dedication and support in being actively involved in the running of the Wathaurong Women\u2019s Group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Koolay Goopma (Young Male Achiever) &#8211;<\/strong> Vaughan Gray for his passion and dedication to his work with the Wathaurong youth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Moordeemoondeek Goopma (Young Female Achiever) &#8211;<\/strong> Layla Boseley for her outstanding work in organising and participating in community events.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 NAIDOC theme is \u2018For our Elders\u2019 and celebrates the important role Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander elders have played and continue to play in communities and families.<\/p>\n<p>NAIDOC Week runs until Sunday, July 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE winners of the 2023 Wathaurong Community NAIDOC Awards were announced yesterday (July 3) at the NAIDOC Week Flag Raising and Community Day held at the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative.
