{"id":79325,"date":"2023-07-20T11:24:29","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T01:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=79325"},"modified":"2023-07-20T11:52:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T01:52:48","slug":"cats-laud-members-for-80000-milestone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/cats-laud-members-for-80000-milestone\/","title":{"rendered":"Cats laud members for 80,000 milestone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Cats have reached 80,000 members for the first time in the AFL club&#8217;s 164-year history.<\/p>\n<p>The Cats experienced an influx of more than 17,000 members in the past year, breaking the previous record of the 12,000 members who joined in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Football Club chief executive officer Steve Hocking expressed his gratitude to members and supporters.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Reaching the milestone of 80,000 members is an incredible achievement for our club,&#8221;he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We extend our appreciation to every member who has demonstrated unwavering support over the years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Cats have always been more than just a football club, we are a close-knit community, and this milestone highlights both the strength of the Geelong community and the support we receive from both across Victoria and around the country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 655px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/07\/2H3A7722_85307.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"655\" height=\"437\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Geelong Cats are celebrating reaching 80,000 members for the first time in the club&#8217;s history. Photo: MARCEL BERENS\/SPORTS MEDIA IMAGES<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Geelong also revealed more than 5,500 fans have joined as AFLW members for the coming season.<\/p>\n<p>The number is expected to increase closer to the start of the season opener against Western Bulldogs at GMHBA Stadium on September 2 .<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On behalf of the board, administration, football department and players we thank all members for their commitment in 2023, which is an encouraging step towards the club&#8217;s journey towards the target of 100,000 members by 2025,&#8221; Hocking said.<\/p>\n<p>The Cats join Carlton, Collingwood and Richmond as clubs with more than 80,000 members in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>2023 Geelong Football Club memberships are still available at membership.geelongcats.com.au<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Geelong Cats have reached 80,000 members for the first time in the AFL club&#8217;s 164-year history.
