GEELONG residents who shop, dine, work or live along or near Pakington Street are invited to have their say on the City of Greater Geelong\u2019s Draft Pakington Street (Geelong West) Public Parking Plan.<\/p>\n

The draft plan which opened for community feedback on July 19, endeavours to ensure there are available car spaces for short term, all day and disabled parking at all times.<\/p>\n

The plan also focuses on making car parking rules more consistent in areas where land use is similar as well as maximising the use of existing spaces.<\/p>\n

The document has been developed through recommendations and feedback received in 2022 from business owners, traders and the broader community in regard to current parking needs and issues within the area.<\/p>\n

Issues had previously been raised regarding availability, parking rules and enforcement and overall customer experience along the Pakington stretch by those giving feedback.<\/p>\n

Suggestions were therefore made in regard to changing loading zones periods and increasing accessible parking spaces and changing time restrictions, where needed to improve turnover to increase overall availability.<\/p>\n

The draft plan includes a proposed series of changes along Pakington Street, Pakington North (Church Street to Wellington\/Waratah Street) and Heritage Core (Wellington\/Waratah Street to Autumn Street).<\/p>\n

Mayor Trent Sullivan said the draft plan would make sure \u201cPako continues to be a gem in our region\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis draft plan reflects council\u2019s commitment to enhance the shopping and dining experience at our beloved Pako Street with the community\u2019s insights and assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to build on how existing public parking spaces are managed so that they better cater for the needs of businesses, local community and visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n

City planning chair Cr Jim Mason said opening community feedback was another opportunity for the business and broader community to come together to ensure parking at Pakington Street improves.<\/p>\n

\u201cParking availability, turnover and consistent parking rules are just some of the factors that can make a visit to your favourite Pako shops, cafes and restaurants and go-to businesses easier.\u201d<\/p>\n
