{"id":79603,"date":"2023-07-26T04:00:04","date_gmt":"2023-07-25T18:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=79603"},"modified":"2023-07-26T15:39:42","modified_gmt":"2023-07-26T05:39:42","slug":"marlins-welcome-beginners-to-come-and-try-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/marlins-welcome-beginners-to-come-and-try-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Marlins welcome beginners to Come and Try Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">GEELONG Marlins Water Polo Club is searching for its next wave of junior Marlins at its Come and Try Day on July 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Marlins president Bec Talbot said the club&#8217;s Come and Try Day session at Christian College pool in Waurn Ponds at the end of this month was a great opportunity for children aged between 8-17 to try out a new sport.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The session is for complete beginners, so no experience is necessary, and we encourage everyone attending to bring a friend too,&#8221; Ms Talbot said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As long as children know how to competently swim in the water, this day is for anyone eager to break into water polo.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ll have expert coaches on hand to provide useful tips and explain the basic rules of the sport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The session will feature two one-hour sessions for two separate age categories.<\/p>\n<p>The first hour (1.30pm-2.30pm) will involve Mixed 12s and Under 14s Boys and Girls.<\/p>\n<p>The second hour (2.30pm-3.30pm) will be catered towards the Under 16s and older age brackets.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Talbot said the club currently has 75 Marlins in total but is eager to increase that number into 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong Marlins compete weekly over the summer months and take part in Ballarat&#8217;s yearly tournament held in September this year at the start the water polo season.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong Marlins also host the largest junior water polo tournament in the state at the Tri-State Championships in February at Kardinia Park.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament welcomes clubs from New South Wales, Tasmania and the ACT to compete in the event.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re a big family club at Geelong Marlins, it&#8217;s a real community-based sport,&#8221; Ms Talbot said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re very equal in terms of male and female splits at the moment, and inclusive of all abilities as well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We welcome new families from all over the region and we&#8217;d love to see them at our Come and Try Day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information on becoming a Marlin, email the club at juniors@geelongwaterpolo.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG Marlins Water Polo Club is searching for its next wave of junior Marlins at its Come and Try Day on July 30.
