THE BARWON Health Foundation is lauding the Geelong community for their generosity and giving spirit after raising more than $204,000 throughout Dry July for Barwon Health\u2019s Andrew Love Cancer Centre and cancer services.<\/p>\n

The month-long campaign saw upward of 200 community members, business leaders, and existing and past patients rally together and go alcohol-free for the motnth.<\/p>\n

All proceeds from their Dry July fundraising went towards improving the comfort, care and wellbeing of people affected by cancer in the Greater Geelong region.<\/p>\n

Billy\u2019s Frothy Fund achieved the three-peat as the nation’s top fundraising team, while Villawood executive director Rory Costelloe also took home the country\u2019s leading individual fundraising title.<\/p>\n

The Andrew Love Cancer Centre was also given a boost by the impressive fundraising efforts of the Geelong United Basketball team ($30,000), Hoop City Baller ($15,000) and Buxton Geelong, who raised $6,000 throughout Dry July.<\/p>\n

Barwon Health Foundation Dry July ambassador and Billy\u2019s Frothy Fund captain Billy Brownless said he was thrilled with their team\u2019s efforts in raising $87,000 to top the national leaderboard again.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a result for our Frothy Fund team!<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only does a month off the frothies have positive impacts for their personal health and wellbeing, but they\u2019ve managed to exceed fundraising expectations while having an incredible impact on the health and wellbeing of cancer patients within the Geelong region.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations to all of our Dry July fundraisers, and of course to the wider community for backing them in and donating so generously.\u201d<\/p>\n

On a national scale, the 15th anniversary of the annual sober challenge saw more than 27,000 people take part, helping to raise a national total of $7.5 million as of August 1.<\/p>\n

Dry July Foundation chief executive officer Katie Evans congratulated all Dry July partakers for their efforts in giving up alcohol to make a difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith Australians facing so many financial challenges this year from interest rate rises to rent rises, the cost-of-living crisis is impacting many people,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut despite these challenges people have still dug deep and donated, we\u2019re grateful for every single dollar donated and raised because we know just how much of an impact these funds make in the lives of people affected by cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since 2013, the Barwon Health Foundation has raised more than $1.52 million for cancer patients and their families within the Greater Geelong community.<\/p>\n

Dry July fundraising is open until August 31.<\/p>\n
