GEELONG will be the centre of the state’s green technology industry tomorrow (Friday, August 11) when it hosts a yearly roadshow showcasing the sector’s cutting-edge research, manufacturing and knowledge.<\/p>\n
The Victorian Cleantech Cluster will bring its NEXUS Cleantech Innovation Festival to Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct, bringing a range of experts and industry leaders to the city.<\/p>\n
Non-profit groups Regional Innovation for a Circular Economy (RICE) and Climate-KIC Australia have also partnered to deliver the event.<\/p>\n
The event will include presentations, panel discussions, and an exhibition of cleantech and circular economy products and initiatives.<\/p>\n
Large local organisations including GeelongPort, Deakin University and The Gordon will be among the guest speakers, while a range of previous Geelong projects will have a chance in the spotlight<\/p>\n
Emerging industry players will also have their chance to present green start-up ideas in a Climate Launchpad Pitch Finals event, with an opportunity to progress to the international stage at the Asia-Pacific finals.<\/p>\n
Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the event supported a suite of other city climate initiatives.<\/p>\n
“Moving towards a circular economy with the help of innovative clean technologies will have huge environmental and economic benefits for our region.”<\/p>\n
“There are many large and small businesses already in Geelong that are looking for opportunities to move into this space.<\/p>\n
“Through events such as this where the local industry can exchange and pitch new ideas, we’re aiming to help establish our region as a hub for cleantech and circular economy solutions in Australia.”<\/p>\n
Deputy chair of the Strong Local Economy portfolio Cr Jim Mason said the event provided an invaluable opportunity for local green technology groups.<\/p>\n
“There’s an opportunity for Geelong to be a leader in this space, and that’s what this event is about.<\/p>\n
