NEW social rooms and multi-purpose facilities at Anakie Recreation Reserve are set to provide greater opportunities for the areas aspiring sporting stars.<\/p>\n
The $2.85 million redevelopment of the Anakie sporting base officially opened on August 3, with deputy mayor Anthony Aitken, councillor Sarah Hathway and Anakie Football and Netball Club president Heath Menhennet doing the honours.<\/p>\n
The build included updating and reviving the social and club rooms, installing a new kitchen, gym, cool room, unisex accessible amenities, a timekeeper’s space and an administration office.<\/p>\n
Mr Aitken said the project’s delivery was a huge boost for the Anakie community.<\/p>\n
“The reserve has a long history as the home to the Anakie Football & Netball Club for nearly 100 years.<\/p>\n
“This commitment by council to a complete replacement of the social rooms was an investment in the grassroots health and wellbeing of the Anakie community, one of the many unique rural community townships we love so much in Geelong.”<\/p>\n
Mr Menhennet said it was a joy to see the facility complete.<\/p>\n
“Let this facility be a testament to the indomitable spirit that resides within, proving that no dream is too small when nurtured with passion and perseverance.”<\/p>\n
“We mark a new chapter in our history, and we do so with hearts brimming withexcitement and gratitude for the joy this haven shall bring to us all.”<\/p>\n
Committed in the 2022-23 budget, 100 per cent of the $2.85 funding for the social rooms was provided by the city.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
