{"id":81241,"date":"2023-08-22T04:27:17","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T18:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=81241"},"modified":"2023-08-17T16:02:47","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T06:02:47","slug":"vr-gaming-centre-eyes-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/vr-gaming-centre-eyes-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"VR gaming centre eyes Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A VIRTUAL REALITY gaming company that transports players to zombie apocalypses, desert islands or post-modern futuristic lands is planning to set up a new site in Geelong.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">\n  <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ldZuvRTHU_U\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<p>Zero Latency VR has applied with the City of Greater Geelong to transform a small South Geelong warehouse into a portal to alternate gaming universes.<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed plan, players would wear wireless headsets with headphones and microphones for group VR gaming sessions.<\/p>\n<p>Zero Latency provides seven shooter or adventure games that last up to 30 minutes for various age groups.<\/p>\n<p>Its titles include Zombie Survival, a puzzling walking journey called Engineerium, and sci-fi themed Singularity.<\/p>\n<p>Games vary from co-operative events where players compete on one team against a common enemy, or head-to-head against each other.<\/p>\n<p>Zero Latency is a global gaming brand that has more than 70 venues since opening in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month it celebrated three million plays worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The new centre could also pave the way for global exposure for Geelong&#8217;s most talented players. The company this month launched its Champions of the Undead competition, which will fly each venue&#8217;s top player to Las Vegas for a grand final event, with the highest-scoring player winning $15,000 USD.<\/p>\n<p>The facility would be at South Geelong&#8217;s industrial area, at 2 Dowsett Street.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal has suggested only minor internal building works to ready the site for its new use, converting it from a wholesale retail shop.<\/p>\n<p>The city is advertising the plans for public comment until August 25.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A VIRTUAL REALITY gaming company that transports players to zombie apocalypses, desert islands or post-modern futuristic lands is planning to set up a new site in Geelong.
