{"id":81261,"date":"2023-08-20T04:00:52","date_gmt":"2023-08-19T18:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=81261"},"modified":"2023-08-17T12:27:53","modified_gmt":"2023-08-17T02:27:53","slug":"waurn-ponds-hairdresser-sells-business-after-16-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/waurn-ponds-hairdresser-sells-business-after-16-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Waurn Ponds hairdresser sells business after 16 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A POPULAR hair salon in Waurn Ponds has handed over operations to new ownership after 16 years.<\/p>\n<p>Anita Farrell has said goodbye to Just Cuts Waurn Ponds after opening the business in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Farrell said it was a tough decision to sell her business located inside the Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre, and that she would miss the buzz her salon created each day the most.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we&#8217;re busy, everything flows; I love the momentum of a busy salon,&#8221; Ms Farrell said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s the satisfaction I get of doing a great job and clients leaving us looking better than when they came in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I knew that once I sold my last salon, my time with Just Cuts would be over. I love the Just Cuts franchising family, so I didn&#8217;t want to sell it to just anyone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I put the feelers out through our owners&#8217; network, and it sold within a week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 233px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/08\/IMG_8665_63329.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"413\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anita Farrell (right) outside the salon she opened 16 years ago in Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre, with new owner Ian Tran.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Farrell and her son went into the store on the final night after everyone had left and enjoyed some takeaway.<\/p>\n<p>She said she needed a quiet moment to process the memories and say goodbye.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Farrell has noticed change over 16 years as a Just Cuts franchise owner, mainly through technology and trends.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The younger generation of clients want to look like the Geelong AFL players &#8211; from school age to young adults,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If a game&#8217;s on in town, I&#8217;d always adjust the roster because I knew we&#8217;d be seeing men in the morning and mums and kids throughout the day, so I&#8217;d need more stylists on.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have a mobile app to check how the salon is performing instantly and look at cut rates and client numbers, however, to my last day I still did all our productivity sheets by paper.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 290px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/08\/IMG_8641_63340.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"290\" height=\"386\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ms Farrell has hung up her scissors after 16 years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ms Farrell believes anyone considering a hairdressing career should just go for it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hairdressing will never be replaced by technology and there&#8217;s always be a market,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a career you can do your whole life, and there&#8217;s opportunities all over the world from apprentice to salon owner.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m so proud of the salon, the team and the small business I built here in Geelong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Farrell, a mother of five, plans to remain in Geelong until her eldest son gets married later this year before moving to Queensland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A POPULAR hair salon in Waurn Ponds has handed over operations to new ownership after 16 years.
