{"id":81626,"date":"2023-08-23T13:48:56","date_gmt":"2023-08-23T03:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/all-abilities-competition-kicks-goals-at-season-finale\/"},"modified":"2023-08-23T13:56:20","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T03:56:20","slug":"all-abilities-competition-kicks-goals-at-season-finale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/all-abilities-competition-kicks-goals-at-season-finale\/","title":{"rendered":"All Abilities competition kicks goals at season finale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Bell Park Dragons All-Abilities football team are the inaugural 2023 AFL Barwon All Abilities Football Netball League champions.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian-first competition reached its climax on Saturday evening at Hamlyn Park, with the Dragons raising the cup after a 19-point victory over the Geelong West Giants.<\/p>\n<p>A consolation grand final was also held between the third and fourth finishing teams Newcomb Power FNC and St Josephs FNC.<\/p>\n<p>Leisure Networks program co-ordinator Luke Maher said both games were played in incredible spirit and were a great celebration of diversity, inclusion and community opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so great to see all the players out there today, giving it their all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been years in the making, and to see the results at this grand final today \u2013 it\u2019s incredible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so proud of everyone involved, the players, their families, the clubs, our team here at Leisure Networks and of course all the support from AFL Barwon.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113750\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113750\" style=\"width: 476px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113750 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/367479523_7842737003_91941.jpg?_t=1692762365\" alt=\"\" width=\"476\" height=\"593\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113750\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bell Park FNC players holding the premiership cup in the rooms after the game. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Maher said the AFL Barwon All Abilities Football League had given local athletes opportunities they had previously only dreamed about.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery few experiences have given the players in the AFL Barwon Inclusion League more of sense of connection with their community than playing our nation\u2019s game in front of a crowd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA crowd not only full of family and friends, but also spectators from the broader public who had come to cheer on their skill and enthusiasm in the spirit of inclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_113747\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-113747\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-113747 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/368786645_1016850065_91964.jpg?_t=1692762365\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-113747\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Geelong West Giants FNC All Abilities football team posing with their medals for making the Grand Final.
