RESIDENTS at Grovedale residential aged care centre lent a hand for vital cancer research as part of Daffodil Day this year.<\/p>\n
The Cancer Council’s annual fundraiser was on Thursday last week, with Balmoral Grove staff and residents raising just over $200 with its tin-rattling on the day.<\/p>\n
Each resident or staff member who donated received a smiley face yellow daffodil badge made by the home’s leisure and lifestyle staff.<\/p>\n
“Everyone was happy to chip in for such a worthy cause, and the splash of yellow brightened everyone’s day,” home manager Julie Cray said.<\/p>\n
Daffodil Day provides funding support for the Cancer Council’s research programs, with the yellow flowers symbolic of hope for a cancer-free future for the one in two people impacted by the disease in their lifetimes.<\/p>\n
The home’s modest contribution will still have a positive impact towards research into the disease \u2013 the Cancer Council says $200 is enough to pay a lab assistant for a day, enabling them to continue investigating cancer treatments.<\/p>\n
The Cancer Council surpassed its million-dollar fundraising target this year, with $1,103,113 donated to the Daffodil Day cause by the start of this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
