{"id":84339,"date":"2023-09-20T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-09-19T18:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=84339"},"modified":"2023-09-19T11:39:14","modified_gmt":"2023-09-19T01:39:14","slug":"representatives-sought-for-emergency-management-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/representatives-sought-for-emergency-management-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"Representatives sought for emergency management committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG residents with links to community groups are being sought to volunteer their time as a representative on the Greater Geelong Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC).<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Geelong MEMPC is on the lookout for two locals with connections to community service clubs and groups, multicultural groups\/leaders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders\/Leaders and or business, retail, tourism, agriculture and farming.<\/p>\n<p>A MEMPC committee is established in every Local Government Area (LGA) in Victoria and is tasked with planning for risk mitigation and response to emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The committee also review and update the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP) and associated sub-plans.<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Geelong MEMPC presently comprises of representatives from emergency response agencies such as Victoria Police, the CFA\/FRV, Vic SES, the Department of Families Fairness and Housing, Department of Health and recovery organisations like Emergency Recovery Victoria, Red Cross and Victorian Council of Churches.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan urged residents to consider the vital role they could play on the committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are many people across our region with the knowledge, experience and community connections relevant to providing a valuable contribution in this space.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I encourage anyone who has ongoing connections with the community and has a passion for the protection and wellbeing of our community, to strongly consider stepping up and expressing their interest to join the committee.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said securing one of the two available spots would be a valuable way for a Greater Geelong resident to benefit their local community.<\/p>\n<p>Expressions of interest will be assessed against demonstrated experience in community engagement and involvement, knowledge of broader emergency management, ability to network and involvement in local committees.<\/p>\n<p>The committee position will be for a set term of two years.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, head to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geelongaustralia.com.au\/ct\/forms\/form.aspx?form_id=20550\">Expression of Interest &#8211; Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee on the City of Greater Geelong&#8217;s website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Expressions of Interest close at 5pm, September 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG residents with links to community groups are being sought to volunteer their time as a representative on the Greater Geelong Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC).
