STAGE two of the Lara Recreation Reserve Masterplan is under way and slated to elevate the sporting and recreational experience for all Lara residents.<\/p>\n
The project’s scope involves the construction of a sporting pavilion, catering to baseball, football, cricket as well as an extensive reconstruction of the baseball field.<\/p>\n
Deputy mayor Anthony Aitken and Member for Lara, Ella George MP joined junior players, coaches and club representatives from the Lara football, cricket and baseball clubs at the site on Thursday to celebrate the project’s commencement.<\/p>\n
Mr Aitken said the masterplan worked towards the Lara community’s commitment to sport and recreation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe future for Lara’s sporting and recreational scene is bright,” Cr Aitken said.\u201cI\u2019m sure many Lara residents will welcome the completion of the project and appreciate all the opportunities that come with having such a top-notch facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms George said Lara would be getting the sport and recreation facilities they deserve.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese upgrades to football, cricket and baseball facilities will complement the recently opened netball and tennis pavilion \u2013 meaning there are great facilities for every sportsperson at Lara.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of the Andrews Labor Government\u2019s contribution to both stages of the Lara Recreation Reserve Masterplan which will ensure that more people can enjoy the health and social benefits at this local sporting facility.<\/p>\n
Lara Sporting Club president Peter Kelly expressed gratitude to the City of Greater Geelong for the Lara Recreational Reserve Master Plan Stage 2 implementation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe facility is a state-of-the-art complex benefiting not only the Lara Sporting Club members and participants but the entire Lara Community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Lara Sporting Club would also like to acknowledge the City of Greater Geelong Project Team for their dedication to the project’s details and extend a thanks to Ward Councillor Anthony Aitken and Kylie Gryzbek, prior to her resignation from Council, for their commitment to delivering the Master Plan.\u201d<\/p>\n
The project has received $1 million in funding from the Victorian Government and an additional $4.545 million from Council.<\/p>\n
Stage two encompasses the design of future masterplan items, such as the formalisation of car parking facilities and future baseball field lighting.<\/p>\n
