The region’s innovative design will be celebrated across 50 events that highlight Geelong as Australia’s first and only UNESCO Creative City of Design during Geelong Design Week 2023.<\/p>\n

Running from October 19-29, the program promises more than 50 exhibitions, talks, film premieres, and unique experiences covering a wide range of design topics, including architecture, fashion, and green infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Geelong deputy mayor Anthony Aitken said Geelong Design Week demonstrated the region’s entrepreneurial spirit, adaptability, and forward-thinking approach.<\/p>\n

“There are more than 50 events to choose from on a range of topics, including human-centred design, how green design can transform cities, the power of slow fashion and creating infrastructure out of waste ground coffee.”<\/p>\n

There are plenty of opportunities for community involvement throughout the week including building a ‘House of Fast Fashun’ made entirely of clothing and textile waste, creating couture outfits from waste materials, and participating in a runway show.<\/p>\n

Geelong Design Week also showcases a diverse range of designers from Greater Geelong. Events, featuring jewellery, furniture, wallpaper, lighting, and fabric design, will take place at Customs House and the Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct.<\/p>\n

One of the standout attractions is the snorkelling tours of The Dell Eco Reef.<\/p>\n

The reef’s sculptural units serve multiple purposes, including reducing beach erosion, providing wave break protection, attracting oysters and mussels, and enhancing the coastal beauty.<\/p>\n

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan expressed his enthusiasm for the reef and its unique appeal as a tourist attraction. “This artificial reef combines innovative tech and ecological expertise, and really needs to be experienced in person to fully understand how it functions, its positive impact and its beauty,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The Dell Eco Reef and other events during Geelong Design Week reflect our region’s innovative mindset, creativity and drive to find better ways to care for our people and our environment.”<\/p>\n
