CARERS in Geelong are spotlighting the relentless efforts of unpaid workers for National Carers Week.<\/p>\n

Running from October 15-21, National Carers Week draws attention to the 2.65 million Australians offering care to loved ones and grappling with challenges ranging from disabilities and mental health concerns to terminal illnesses and old age vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n

During this week, landmarks across Australia will glow in Carers Victoria’s hues of red and blue.<\/p>\n

The City of Geelong\u2019s catenary lights will be illuminated with the vibrant colours of Carers Victoria.’<\/p>\n

Local resident Dij Vriens, and her daughter Zara, living with Down Syndrome, said the week is about visibility and recognition.<\/p>\n

“Being a carer is both challenging and rewarding. It’s a role filled with love, sacrifice, and resilience. This week allows us to come together, share our stories, and find strength in our community of carers. It’s a reminder that we are not alone on this journey, and our efforts are truly appreciated.”<\/p>\n

Carers Victoria chief executive officer Judith Abbott said National Carers Week was a time to acknowledge and celebrate the millions of unpaid carers who provide vital support to their loved ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s a week filled with gratitude and appreciation for their tireless efforts,” Ms Vriens said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs someone with family and friends in Geelong, it\u2019s great to see the work of carers \u2013 including those in my own circle \u2013 being recognised.”<\/p>\n

“A caring role can take up a lot of time, leaving people with little time and energy to maintain other interest and friendships.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring Carers Week, we are asking everyone to take the time to connect with someone they know in a caring role. It might be a phone call, a quick visit, or taking them out for a coffee or a bite to eat: just making that connection can make a big difference.”<\/p>\n

With the theme \u2018Millions of Reasons to Care\u2019, the week seeks to spotlight the essence of the carer community.<\/p>\n

Carers Victoria has a lineup of events for the week and encourages digital engagement such as sharing stories and photos online using the hashtag #NationalCarersWeek.<\/p>\n
