{"id":86023,"date":"2023-10-20T13:00:18","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T02:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=86023"},"modified":"2024-05-30T19:53:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-30T09:53:00","slug":"comedy-festivalbrings-talent-to-geelong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/comedy-festivalbrings-talent-to-geelong\/","title":{"rendered":"Comedy Festival brings talent to Geelong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Comedy fans are preparing themselves for the arrival of Geelong&#8217;s first homegrown comedy festival.<\/p>\n<p>The Geelong Comedy Festival will run from October 26-28 and feature more than 50 shows across six venues, including Beavs Bar, The Arborist and Valhalla Taproom.<\/p>\n<p>The event will showcase a variety of talent, with shows on offer from award-winning performers as well as some of the best newcomers on the comedy scene.<\/p>\n<p>Ticket prices for all shows are capped at $25.<\/p>\n<p>Hailing originally from Canberra, deadpan comedian Nick Schuller said he was looking forward to being back in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve performed in Geelong quite a few times and the audience has always been really nice, and receptive and fun, so when the opportunity came up\u2026it was a no-brainer,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86027\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86027\" style=\"width: 395px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-86027 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/NMP-06_35113.jpeg?_t=1697675662\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/NMP-06_35113.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/NMP-06_35113-200x300.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/NMP-06_35113-683x1024.jpeg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/NMP-06_35113-768x1151.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deadpan comedian Nick Schuller, said being involved with Geelong&#8217;s first comedy festival was a no-brainer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s just nice to see live comedy and live entertainment bouncing back after the pandemic and see new opportunities and new events springing up.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Schuller has toured around the country with the International Comedy Festival Roadshow and previously performed with Tom Gleeson.<\/p>\n<p>He will be performing his show, Dry Ginger Male, on October 26 at 5.30pm at The Brewery Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As everyone is I&#8217;m sure aware, comedy is best performed during business hours,&#8221; Schuller said.<\/p>\n<p>Also gracing The Brewery Geelong is radio presenter and stand-up, Sarah Maree Cameron.<\/p>\n<p>Her performance comes off the back of her success at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival where her show, One Womb Please!, enjoyed sell-out shows and rave reviews.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong audiences will now be able to see the show for themselves on October 27.<\/p>\n<p>Up-and-coming stand-up Evan Hocking, of the Good Banter podcast, will also be performing his blend of observational humour and storytelling at the Geelong Comedy Festival.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86025\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86025\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-86025 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/SMC-hero_71790.jpeg?_t=1697675662\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"335\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/SMC-hero_71790.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/SMC-hero_71790-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/10\/SMC-hero_71790-768x434.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86025\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Award-winning radio presenter Sarah Maree Cameron will bring her sold out show, &#8216;One Womb Please&#8217;, to Geelong on October 27.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A regular at sporting clubs, corporate fundraisers and comedy rooms, Hocking has travelled Australia as a comedian and previously performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When people find out my wife&#8217;s a doctor, they look surprised.
