A GENEROUS $25,000 grant from the Anthony Costa Foundation will help Leisure Networks expand their popular Mini Movers program throughout Geelong region.<\/p>\n

Mini Movers is a physical wellbeing program designed for young children and uses sports as a fun way to improve motor skills and build social and emotional skills.<\/p>\n

The Anthony Costa Foundation’s support will allow Leisure Networks to provide the program free of charge to children in various local schools.<\/p>\n

Leisure Networks program coordinator, Tori Honner said the organisation was rapt to receive some additional support.<\/p>\n

“Leisure Networks is all about building active and connected communities, and we really believe that sport is at the heart of that.”<\/p>\n

“This funding will allow us to deliver the Mini Movers six-week program, every term for a 12-month period at Whittington Family and Child Care, St. Albans Park Kindergarten and Norlane West Kindergarten.<\/p>\n

“We are confident families and carers at these centres will start to see the children’s motor skills, and social skills, improving rapidly thanks to the program.<\/p>\n

“We are confident we will be seeing lots of smiles from all the children!”<\/p>\n

Ms Honner said the sports program would allow children to learn new strategies like perseverance, sociability and self-esteem.<\/p>\n

“These are important skills that we know will support children as they move on to primary school.<\/p>\n

“Through the program, we want children to get early exposure to lots of different types of sport.<\/p>\n

“This will help them, and their families, find a sport they love that they can pursue as they get older.”<\/p>\n
