{"id":86197,"date":"2023-10-26T04:00:20","date_gmt":"2023-10-25T17:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=86197"},"modified":"2023-10-26T11:03:26","modified_gmt":"2023-10-26T00:03:26","slug":"captain-for-a-cause-to-support-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/captain-for-a-cause-to-support-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"Captain for a Cause to support Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A PASSIONATE Geelong local is leading the charge this weekend at a community event with a cause very close to his heart.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the Ukrainians Associations of Geelong, Jeremy Pryslak is hosting the Captain for a Cause event on Sunday, October 29 at Captains Bar in Geelong.<\/p>\n<p>The event will aim to raise vital funds to support the &#8216;Defend Ukraine Appeal&#8217;, Australia&#8217;s most significant community driven initiative for non-lethal military aid in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Live music, amazing DJ&#8217;s, delicious food and raffle prizes are slated to feature on the day.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pryslak, who is of Ukrainian heritage, has recently returned from his second humanitarian trip to Ukraine to help re-build local homes and make dehydrated food for people on the frontline.<\/p>\n<p>He said the fundraiser would go a long way in providing relief to those affected by the war.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119881\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119881\" style=\"width: 452px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-119881 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/PXL_20231008_093515389-scaled.jpg?_t=1698039374\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119881\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mr Pryslak (right) with some of his friends in Ukraine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are into day 602 of the war and we just want to keep the momentum up and get the word out there.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have lots of Ukrainians in our own community, so we thought it was a great time to raise some more money and raise awareness of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a Ukrainian myself, it&#8217;s been easy to forget the amazing parts of being Ukrainian and what it means to us.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s important to remind ourselves and the broader community of what we are fighting for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_119880\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-119880\" style=\"width: 452px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-119880 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/PXL_20231003_102220744-scaled.jpg?_t=1698039357\" alt=\"\" width=\"452\" height=\"600\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-119880\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Geelong local is hoping to bring more awareness to the situation in Ukraine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pryslak said the Defend Ukraine Appeal is now mainly focusing on buying non-lethal drones and demining equipment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t talk about Ukraine and aid without documenting the very real threat to their lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Drones, which are literally their eyes on the battlefield, have and will continue to save lives.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ukraine is also now the most mined country in the world, so anything that can be used to make things safe enough is really important.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a country whose main export is their agriculture and if there are fields are completely full of mines, then it&#8217;s going to cause some severe problems in the future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the funds we raise will help in these lifesaving areas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For tickets and more information, head to <a href=\"http:\/\/go.rallyup.com\/captainforacausedua\">go.rallyup.com\/captainforacausedua<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A PASSIONATE Geelong local is leading the charge this weekend at a community event with a cause very close to his heart.
