UPGRADES are now complete at the popular Avalon boat ramp, allowing boaters to hit the water just in time for the warmer summer months.<\/p>\n
The $1.8 million works will help make launching and retrieving safer for local aquatic enthusiasts accessing productive fishing grounds nearby in Port Phillip and Corio Bay.<\/p>\n
The Better Boating Victoria Fund upgrade includes an extra 25 new car and trailer parks, a 15-metre extension to the jetty on the western side of the ramp and a completely refurbished eastern jetty.<\/p>\n
The upgraded jetties feature wave baffles to reduce wave action and provide more protection for boaters at the ramp.<\/p>\n
A new water collection area has also been built separate to the ramp, meaning local aquaculture producers no longer need to occupy a lane while pumping water.<\/p>\n
Member for Lara, Ella George said the upgrades are a huge boost for the Victorian boating community.<\/p>\n
“A day fishing or cruising on Port Phillip or Corio Bay for residents on the northern side of Geelong has never been easier \u2013thanks to the Allan Labor Government’s investment in the Avalon boat ramp.”<\/p>\n
Minister for Outdoor Recreation, Steve Dimopoulos said a day on water would now be easier and more accessible for Geelong locals and travellers alike.<\/p>\n
“This project will provide greater protection for boats at the ramp and much more parking, ensuring Avalon is another launching option for boaters from around Geelong and Melbourne’s growing west.”<\/p>\n
Better Boating Victoria is currently working with ramp managers to upgrade the nearby Limeburners Point and Kirk Point boat ramps, further enhancing boating facilities in Geelong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
