{"id":86595,"date":"2023-11-07T04:09:21","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T17:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=86595"},"modified":"2023-11-02T10:15:22","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T23:15:22","slug":"tree-launch-to-start-christmas-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/tree-launch-to-start-christmas-celebrations\/","title":{"rendered":"Tree launch to start Christmas celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A SPECTACULAR night of activities next weekend will signal the start of this year&#8217;s Christmas in Geelong program.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Greater Geelong&#8217;s Floating Christmas Tree returns on November 11 with a few new surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Families who mark the annual tradition of lighting the tree at the Waterfront will also be treated to the biggest Christmas entertainment line-up yet.<\/p>\n<p>The opening night features Stellar Perry as the headliner, as well as an impressive line-up of supporting acts, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Denis and Zoe Walter<\/li>\n<li>Kim Cooper<\/li>\n<li>Piano Bar Geelong&#8217;s Thomas Currie<\/li>\n<li>Special Geelong Schools Big Band, and hosts Mark and Milly from bayFM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Roving entertainment begins at Steampacket Quay with Christmas characters, music and face painting at 5.30pm, ahead of a two-hour stage show starting at 7pm with a Wadawurrung Welcome to Country and performance opening the show.<\/p>\n<p>The lighting of the city&#8217;s Floating Christmas Tree will occur at 9pm and will include low-level fireworks.<\/p>\n<p>Again this year, one lucky child will have the chance to turn on Geelong&#8217;s Floating Christmas Tree as well.<\/p>\n<p>For your chance to win (open to children aged 12 and under), enter the city&#8217;s Christmas Flick the Switch competition online by heading to <a href=\"http:\/\/geelongaustralia.com.au\/events\/default.aspx\">geelongaustralia.com.au\/events\/default.aspx<\/a> and click on the &#8220;free opening night&#8221; tile.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A SPECTACULAR night of activities next weekend will signal the start of this year&#8217;s Christmas in Geelong program.
