RESIDENTS across Geelong will stop what they’re doing at 11am on Saturday, November 11 to remember those who gave their lives in times of war and conflict as part of Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n
Geelong residents will again return to the Geelong Peace Memorial to conduct this year’s Remembrance Day proceedings on the eleventh hour of next Saturday, honouring armed services personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice.<\/p>\n
Next Saturday marks 105 years since the Armistice of World War One was signed, providing the base for Remembrance Day proceedings.<\/p>\n
Geelong RSL president Andrew Hanns confirmed this year’s service will kick off at 10.30am, with community members, service personnel and dignitaries to be in attendance.<\/p>\n
“It was good to have proceedings return to the Peace Memorial last year for the first time in three years,” Mr Hanns said.<\/p>\n
“It has been a little worrying to hear COVID is coming back in some parts of Australia, which is a little bit of a worry because of our connection with aged care facilities around Geelong.<\/p>\n
“But we’re looking forward to paying our respects next weekend at the traditional spot, it has always been an honour for me personally, and a privilege, to be a part of the service at Johnstone Park.”<\/p>\n
Those wanting to pay their respects can also do so at Waurn Ponds Memorial Reserve at the corner of Cochranes Road and Waurn Ponds Drive.<\/p>\n
Attendees are encouraged to arrive at the reserve at 10.30am with the service to begin at 10.45am.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
