{"id":86840,"date":"2023-11-09T04:00:19","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T17:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/local-duo-smash-mental-health-fundraising-goal\/"},"modified":"2023-11-09T04:00:19","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T17:00:19","slug":"local-duo-smash-mental-health-fundraising-goal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/local-duo-smash-mental-health-fundraising-goal\/","title":{"rendered":"Local duo smash mental health fundraising goal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A GEELONG mother-daughter duo has helped to raise more than $15,000 for the Black Dog Institute during October&#8217;s One Foot Forward campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Janina Lear and her daughter Lola walked over 100km help raise funds for ground-breaking mental health treatment, education and digital services.<\/p>\n<p>The pair tragically lost their son\/brother Jonah Lear last year following a battle with mental illness.<\/p>\n<p>The Jonah&#8217;s Wings team finished in second place Australia-wide, blowing Ms Lear&#8217;s expectations out of the park.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_120874\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-120874\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-120874 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/11\/IMG_3769-scaled.jpg?_t=1699413003\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-120874\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Janina and Lola walked over 100km during the month in memory of their loved one Jonah Lear.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My first goal was to raise $5,000, so to raise over $15,000 was just amazing, I&#8217;m so pleased.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s totally exceeded expectations, in terms of both the fundraising and the joy I&#8217;ve gotten from walking.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Just walking every day had so many benefits and the girls and I really enjoyed doing it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m really proud of us for pulling together and doing it, even in some terrible weather and conditions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve been getting a lot of messages saying how proud Jonah must be of us.
