RESIDENTS across Geelong joined a nationwide moment of reflection at 11 am on Saturday, November 11, to commemorate Remembrance Day.<\/p>\n

Pausing in their activities, they honoured those who gave their lives in times of war and conflict.<\/p>\n

The Geelong Peace Memorial hosted this year’s proceedings, attracting community members, service personnel, and dignitaries who gathered to pay tribute.<\/p>\n

The Geelong and District Peace Memorial stands as a lasting tribute to soldiers who served in World War One and has evolved to encompass the names of service men and women from subsequent conflicts.<\/p>\n

It commemorates the approximately 3,500 individuals from the Geelong region who enlisted and served in World Wars One and Two.<\/p>\n

It also features honour rolls acknowledging those involved in the Korean, Malaya, Borneo, Vietnam, and Iraq conflicts, United Nations operations, Medical officers, Nursing services, and Prisoners of War.<\/p>\n

The memorial’s foyer was officially inaugurated on October 31, 1926 by then Governor of Victoria Lord Somers.<\/p>\n

It remains a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by servicemen and women across various wars and conflicts, embodying the ongoing commitment to honour their memory.<\/p>\n
