GEELONG’s AFLW side will enter unchartered territory this Sunday, November 19 when it makes the trip to IKON Park for its first Semi-Final.<\/p>\n
The Cats are in white-hot form following a convincing 7.9 (51) to 5.3 (33) Elimination Final win over Essendon but will need to overcome a Melbourne side it has never defeated.<\/p>\n
Geelong fell to the Demons in Round 5 earlier this season by 49 points in a dominant display by the reigning premiers.<\/p>\n
Melbourne will look to avoid a straight sets finals exit following a disappointing result against North Melbourne in last week’s Qualifying Final.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, Cats youngster Darcy Moloney said last weekend was a huge accomplishment for the club and her side would look to carry that momentum into Sunday.<\/p>\n
“We’re quickly moving onto this week, we don’t want last week’s finals win to be our first and last this year.<\/p>\n
“Whoever we’re coming up against, it’s going to be a challenge, it’s finals.<\/p>\n
“Melbourne are the reigning premiers, so if anyone knows how to win, it’s them, and after two straight performances I’m sure they’re not happy with, they’re going to come out firing.”<\/p>\n
Cats key forward and leading goal-kicker Chloe Scheer is under a cloud after suffering a shoulder injury against the Bombers.<\/p>\n
Scheer, who ranks fifth in the AFLW for majors, was ruled out of the contest late in the first term last Sunday at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n
“I love Scheery, she’s one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet, and I love the way she goes about her footy,” Moloney said.<\/p>\n
“When she’s on, she’s the best forward in the competition in my opinion, so obviously it’s really unfortunate for her coming off a few really good games.<\/p>\n
“She’s amazing, she’ll get through it, and she’ll support us as much as she can.”<\/p>\n
