{"id":88007,"date":"2023-12-12T04:00:17","date_gmt":"2023-12-11T17:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=88007"},"modified":"2023-12-06T14:17:03","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T03:17:03","slug":"closures-ahead-for-popular-grovedale-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/closures-ahead-for-popular-grovedale-route\/","title":{"rendered":"Closures ahead for popular Grovedale route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COMPLETE road closures will occur at the intersection of Marshalltown Road and Bailey Street, Grovedale, this January for routine improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Works will improve road safety and increase pedestrian security, and accentuate approach speeds.<\/p>\n<p>Locals are being told to seek alternate travelling routes and expect delays from January 3 to January 25, 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Key aspects of the project include the installation of wombat crossings, upgrades to the roundabout, drainage and kerb ramps, upgrades to streetlights and the provision of new footpaths.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said it was great the roadwork improvements could be funded under the federal government&#8217;s BlackSpot Safety Program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Marshalltown Rd\/Bailey St project is a testament to our commitment to making Grovedale a safer and more accessible community for everyone,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are prioritising the safety of our residents, construction staff, and all road users while enhancing the overall experience of our town.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We acknowledge that there will be disruptions, the City sincerely appreciates the patience and understanding of our residents and road users as we carry out these essential roadworks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Federal member for Corangamite, Libby Coker, said the road upgrades were part of the government&#8217;s commitment to building safer roads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Located just nearby a primary school, childcare center and a busy shopping area, this federally funded upgrade of the Marshalltown Road and Bailey Street intersection will go a long way to improving safety for residents in the fast-growing area of Grovedale,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;d like to once again thank everyone in the Grovedale community who advocated for this much-needed upgrade, and also emphasise that the safety of construction workers and local residents must be a top priority as works get underway in January next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For more information and updates, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/geelongaustraila.com.au\">geelongaustraila.com.au<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>COMPLETE road closures will occur at the intersection of Marshalltown Road and Bailey Street, Grovedale, this January for routine improvements.
