AFL BARWON has unveiled its first Life Member, presenting the honour inaugural AFL Barwon commission chair Craig Keating at last Thursday’s annual general meeting.<\/p>\n
Keating served as AFL Barwon’s chair over a 10-year period, leaving the position at the end of last year.<\/p>\n
“I’m delighted that Craig has been recognised for his outstanding service,” incumbent chair Michelle Gerdtz said.<\/p>\n
“Craig’s commitment to the region since the inception of AFL Barwon was exceptional.<\/p>\n
“As the inaugural chair, he led the region from through some really challenging times that his strong leadership helped guide the business, clubs, and its stakeholders through.<\/p>\n
“Craig left AFL Barwon last year in such a great position, and there is certainly no one more deserving than Craig for this Life Membership award.”<\/p>\n
The AFL Barwon Commission also ratified new three-year terms of incumbent commissioners Diana Murase and Mark Wilken.<\/p>\n
This also included confirming new commissioner Ethan Vines to fill the vacant position left by Robert Hallett, who served his full term.<\/p>\n
Gerdtz thanked Hallett for his service to the commission.<\/p>\n
“Bob has been a fantastic servant of AFL Barwon firstly as an inaugural regional committee appointee and then as AFL Barwon Commissioner,” she said.<\/p>\n
“I thank him for his support to me personally and for his commitment to the whole<\/p>\n
Commission and football and netball in the region through this time.<\/p>\n
Vines joins the commission as part of the City of Greater Geelong Youth on Board Program, training and supporting young people between 18-25 in becoming on the boards of management of local organisations.<\/p>\n
