{"id":88389,"date":"2023-12-15T04:00:49","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T17:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=88389"},"modified":"2023-12-13T22:31:20","modified_gmt":"2023-12-13T11:31:20","slug":"diamond-valley-big-joins-united-for-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/sport\/diamond-valley-big-joins-united-for-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Diamond Valley big joins United for 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG United Men&#8217;s head coach and former Diamond Valley Eagles head coach Grant Wallace has delved into his connections at his previous club to make the club&#8217;s first new signing ahead of the 2024 season.<\/p>\n<p>Former Eagle and Kenyan international Desmond Owili will suit up for United next season under his old coach, with the 35-year-old veteran adding an abundance of height and strength to Wallace&#8217;s frontcourt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Des is a key addition to our roster for 2024 and provides a key we were missing this past season,&#8221; Wallace said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His ability to run the floor, rebound, defend opposition bigs and switch out to defend the guards is crucial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He finishes well around the basket band passes well out of the post. He competes every minute he is on the floor, in training and games, and he will make us better.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Above all else he is a sensational person and teammate and I know he will quickly become a favourite of our home crowds in Season 2024.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 332px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/12\/187854-2_75277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"332\" height=\"498\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Desmond Owili in action for Diamond Valley last season.
