{"id":88660,"date":"2023-12-25T04:00:59","date_gmt":"2023-12-24T17:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=88660"},"modified":"2023-12-20T15:12:50","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T04:12:50","slug":"clos-to-expand-following-state-government-grant-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/clos-to-expand-following-state-government-grant-approval\/","title":{"rendered":"CLOS to expand following state government grant approval"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A LOCAL Geelong business has received over $800,000 from the State Government to expand operations constructing high-quality and affordable housing components such as wall and floor panels<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Allan Labor Government&#8217;s push to support businesses that cut waste and create new commercial opportunities for recycled products, Geelong-based business Cross Laminated Offsite Solutions (CLOS) was named one of eight Victorian businesses to receive funding under the Circular Economy Business Support Fund.<\/p>\n<p>CLOS will receive $896,500 as part of the latest funding round to expand its construction facility based out of the Old Ford Factory.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 515px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/12\/Photo-news-story-bus_76997.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"515\" height=\"343\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CLOS was told last month it was approved for the latest round of funding from the Labor Government\u2019s Circular Business Support Fund.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Avoiding waste will give Victorian businesses a competitive edge \u2013 boosting productivity and reducing waste left in landfill,&#8221; State Member for Geelong Christine Couzens said.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the funding is to develop a &#8216;closed panel system&#8217; that allows for the completion of finished wall and floor panels on a conveyor line.<\/p>\n<p>The new facility will increase capacity by 10 times while keeping operational costs only three times higher, promoting circular economy principles in the Victorian construction industry, and reducing material intensity, carbon emissions, and costs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 564px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2023\/12\/Photo-news-story-bus_77049.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"376\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CLOS CEO John Fitzgibbon presents a section of the company&#8217;s modular homes. Photos: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The expansion also helps to build new cost-effective homes at a faster rate and creates 40 new jobs.<\/p>\n<p>The Circular Economy Business Support Fund joint with the Circular Economy Innovation Fund has supported 49 projects through more than $11 million of funding to date.<\/p>\n<p>The funds are financially backed by the Labor Government&#8217;s $515 million investment to deliver large-scale transformation of the waste and recycling sector in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>To learn about the funded projects, visit
