TWO Geelong students who have created positive change in their communities through sport were selected to participate in the Australian Olympic Change-Maker National Summit that was held in Canberra earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Jevic Mwanza from Northern Bay College and Harris Henderson from St Joseph’s College were both successful in getting to participate in the summit.<\/p>\n
AOC CEO Matt Carroll congratulated the students on their selection to the 2023 Australian Olympic Change-Maker National Summit.<\/p>\n
“The Australian Olympic Change-Maker program is a special program,” Mr Carroll said.<\/p>\n
“It is inspiring to see the impact Australian students are having in their schools and local communities, and the many initiatives they are implementing.”<\/p>\n
“Congratulations to each of the 26 young leaders selected for the National Summit \u2013 while still at school they are already creating positive change in their communities, demonstrating the Olympic spirit from Darwin to Murrumbidgee, Launceston to Mindarie. They demonstrate our future is in very capable hands.”<\/p>\n
“Thank you as well to the teachers and schools around Australia for their ongoing support of the Australian Olympic Change-Maker Program \u2013 not only for nominating students to be recognised as Change-Makers, but for fostering environments where young people feel empowered to make a difference.”<\/p>\n
In total, 26 students from year 10 to 12 were chosen by a panel of Olympians and represented their schools and the local community at the summit.<\/p>\n
The summit enabled them to collaborate with like-minded individuals and Olympians to give recommendations to the Australian Olympic Committee, which will play a key role in determining the future of the Olympic movement in Australia.<\/p>\n
At the National Summit, students had the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with Olympians including Brooke Hanson, Mack Horton, Sami Kennedy-Sim and Nathan Katz.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
