sand and surf life saving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE THAN 1,000 swimmers took part in the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club\u2019s Rock2Ramp event at Point Roadknight Beach yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The ocean swim and family event is now in its 28th year and has long been considered a highlight of the town\u2019s calendar.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_124353\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-124353\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124353 \" id=\"caption-attachment-124359\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Swimmers from across Australia competed across five event categories.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club president David Marsh said yesterday\u2019s event was \u201cfabulous\u201d and celebrated the large turnout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a total of just over 1,040 swimmers which was up on last year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[There were] people from all round Australia and a couple of overseas entrants which was fabulous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124354 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/12\/2H3A6964-1024x683.jpg?_t=1703817144\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124360\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/12\/061A6563-1024x683.jpg?_t=1703817454\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Held against the backdrop of the Anglesea cliffs, the Rock2Ramp competition consists of five event categories.<\/p>\n<p>In the open age 600m swim, Campbell Batchelor took home the win in the men\u2019s event with a time of 8:56, beating silver medallist Ashton Clements by more than 1 minute.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s competition, Zoe McKenna claimed the top title for the second year in a row with a time of 8:45, an improvement on last year\u2019s effort by almost 70 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124358 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/12\/061A7473-1024x683.jpg?_t=1703817382\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dakoda Mathers took the gold in the women\u2019s open age 2.5km, completing the swim with a time of 43:20, and after taking second place in the men\u2019s event last year, Matt Gilling celebrated his win with a time of 36:39.<\/p>\n<p>Mathers backed up her performance in the 1.2km swim, taking second in 18-29 category.<\/p>\n<p>Only 17 seconds separated the three medallists with Naomi Scott ultimately taking the gold with a time of 17:22.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 1.2km competition, Conor Hayes from the 12-17 category took home the top honour and Robbe Dilissen was the open winner with a time of 16:50.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124357 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/12\/061A7132-1024x683.jpg?_t=1703817338\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124361 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/12\/2H3A6739-683x1024.jpg?_t=1703817609\" alt=\"\" width=\"601\" height=\"902\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anglesea Surf Club member Sam Hume once again dominated in the event\u2019s Surf \u2018n\u2019 Turf competition with a time of 45:04.<\/p>\n<p>The category is open to competitors who complete both the twilight Roo Run the night before and the 1.2km swim at the Rock2Ramp event.<\/p>\n<p>Hume&#8217;s daughter, Jasmine, took out the win in the women\u2019s category with a time of 50:52.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124352 \" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Youngsters also had the opportunity to get involved in the day with the Kids Dash.<\/p>\n<p>An untimed race with no placegetters, the dash was held over 200m for its 7\u20139-year-old participants and 300m for 10-12-year-olds.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_124356\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-124356\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-124356 \" id=\"caption-attachment-124356\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The funds raised from the Rock2Ramp event support the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club to protect the local community.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Marsh said all the funds raised from the event support the Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club, allowing it to continue delivering its service to the local community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our major fundraiser for the year,\u201d Marsh said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the funds go directly to supporting our volunteer lifesavings on the beach, be that on patrol or training to be on patrol.
