	{"id":89041,"date":"2024-01-03T16:00:32","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T05:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/david-moyle-dives-into-lornes-food-scene-with-the-clam\/"},"modified":"2024-05-31T11:29:30","modified_gmt":"2024-05-31T01:29:30","slug":"david-moyle-dives-into-lornes-food-scene-with-the-clam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/david-moyle-dives-into-lornes-food-scene-with-the-clam\/","title":{"rendered":"David Moyle dives into Lorne&#8217;s food scene with The Clam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LORNE\u2019s vibrant culinary scene is set to expand this month with the launch of a beach shack-inspired tavern honouring the town\u2019s coastal setting and fabled 1960s bohemia.<\/p>\n<p>Envisioned as a casual, come-anytime venue, The Clam is the second joint venture of acclaimed chef David Moyle and creative director George Barnes.<\/p>\n<p>The duo opened their first project, the eatery Salty Mangrove, in northern NSW in September.<\/p>\n<p>Moyle said The Clam is \u201cthe realisation of a long-held dream\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a kid growing up in Port Fairy, Lorne felt like Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven now, driving into town, I still get goosebumps \u2013 it\u2019s such a special place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spent a summer here as a teenager and remember thinking I would love to return and run my own place someday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Clam will open in stages beginning with a pop-up bar on the venue\u2019s terraced and sea-facing deck while its interior is completed.<\/p>\n<p>The pop-up will feature a dedicated wine program by Blackhearts &amp; Sparrows and a hand-picked roster of Moyle\u2019s favourite Australian food vendors.<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne dumpling house Shandong Mama has been confirmed as the venue\u2019s first food vendor and will help to launch proceedings when The Clam opens its doors in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>As the venue progresses, diners can look forward to native seafood, hand-cut chips and a pared back, produce-driven menu.<\/p>\n<p>Moyle said he wants the seaside tavern to feel \u201cunpretentious, worn-in and a bit rough around the edges\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want The Clam to be a place where you can come straight from the beach with sand on your feet and feel welcome,\u201d Moyle said.<\/p>\n<p>The Clam will be located next door to the newly reopened Lorne Theatre and the two venues will work together to offer guests a rounded offer of food, drink and culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Clam will operate loosely as the hospitality arm of Lorne Theatre,\u201d Moyle said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt won\u2019t exactly be a pub or a restaurant, it will sit somewhere in between, which makes it more versatile and approachable \u2013 at any time of day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Clam will be a celebratory place \u2013 fun, irreverent, a bit loose, mildly hedonistic and never finished.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Clam is set to open this month and will be located at 82-84 Mountjoy Parade, Lorne.<\/p>\n<p>For updates, follow the project on Instagram <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/theclamlorne\/\">@TheClamLorne<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LORNE\u2019s vibrant culinary scene is set to expand this month with the launch of a beach shack-inspired tavern honouring the town\u2019s coastal setting and fabled 1960s bohemia.
