THE Victorian government has announced the launch of a new $1 million grant program designed to showcase food and beverages being produced across the state.<\/p>\n

The Regional Activation Grant Program offers funding of up to $700,000 to organisations wanting to host local events that promote food and beverages in the regions where they are produced.<\/p>\n

The program aims to increase local awareness and consumption of local produce and strengthen the community’s connection with the creators behind these goods.<\/p>\n

Events should provide opportunities for communities to engage directly with local producers and may include immersive food and beverage festivals, farmers’ markets or collaborative tasting sessions.<\/p>\n

Minister for Agriculture, Ros Spence, said the state’s agricultural sector generates more than $20 billion annually.<\/p>\n

“We’re empowering local producers to promote Victoria’s wonderful variety of locally sourced food and drinks and celebrate the unique stories behind every product,” she said.<\/p>\n

“These grants will help foster a rich appreciation for Victorian produce and encourage consumers to shop in their local region and build a connection with local producers.”<\/p>\n

Businesses involved in the Regional Activation Grant Program will also have their products showcased on the Vic Grown section of the Melbourne Food and Wine website.<\/p>\n

Offering producer profiles and insights into the stories behind local goods, the website acts as a comprehensive hub for consumers and facilitates access to locally sourced produce.<\/p>\n

The grant program is open to non-profit organisations such as Regional Tourism Boards, representative bodies and associations, as well as food and fibre groups.<\/p>\n

Applications for the program’s first round of funding close February 16.<\/p>\n
