THE CITY of Greater Geelong is continuing its Bus Shelter Renewal Program in 2024, creating safer and more accessible public transport options across Greater Geelong.<\/p>\n
The City has invested more than $500,000 in the program over the past two years, improving eight bus shelters located in Ocean Grove, Corio, Newtown, Lara, Belmont and Breakwater.<\/p>\n
The upgrades included the installation of new concrete hardstands, footpath ramps, kerb and channel upgrades, tactile ground surface indicators and solar powered lighting.<\/p>\n
City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said council’s annual Bus Shelter Renewal Program aimed to encourage more people to take bus trips.<\/p>\n
“We want to improve the facilities across Geelong’s bus stops, to help make the public transport system more attractive and accessible to potential users.”<\/p>\n
Transport portfolio chair, councillor Ron Nelson, said the upgrades help to create more accessible, environmentally friendly and efficient public transportation networks.<\/p>\n
“The new lighting, directional aids and footpath ramps will ensure that all users will be safer when they are getting onto or off the bus at these stops.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
