BETTER boating has become a reality in Geelong with more than 50 new car and trailer parks ready for use at Limeburners Point.<\/p>\n
Works involved the reconstruction of an old overflow area, which has been completely revamped to take the total number of parking spaces at the facility to over 100.<\/p>\n
The new parking spaces feature permeable paving, a best practise solution for stormwater management and are built from recycled plastic grid and crushed rock infill.<\/p>\n
Limeburners Point is the third boating facility in the Geelong region to benefit from major upgrades in recent months.<\/p>\n
Minister for Outdoor Recreation, Steve Dimopoulos said the upgrades would provide greater access for those heading out into Corio Bay and Port Phillip Bay this summer.<\/p>\n
“This is another example of boaters’ licence and registration fees being put to good use on projects that will really make a difference for anyone heading out to fish or just enjoying a cruise in their pride and joy.”<\/p>\n
Member for Geelong, Christine Couzens said Limeburners has always been popular due to its proximity to great fishing and protection from wind and waves.<\/p>\n
“Having more parking here means even more people and their families can enjoy quality time on the water this summer.”<\/p>\n
Member for Lara, Ella George added her support of the upgrades.<\/p>\n
“It’s going to be a bumper summer for boaters around Geelong, with upgraded ramps at Avalon, Kirk Point and more parking at Limeburners providing a range of options for boats of all shapes and sizes.”<\/p>\n
Extra boat ramp lanes, new pontoons and improvements to the offshore wave attenuator are slated to commence in the coming years at Limeburners Point as part of a second construction stage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
