THE City of Greater Geelong will continue to not officially celebrate Australia Day on January 26.<\/p>\n

However, there will be some other events held on the day, such as the Free Children’s Fun Day, which will again be held at Rippleside Park.<\/p>\n

The event, which is not run by the city, will include food and drink vendors and free rides and entertainment, where children can explore the Interactive Scouts Compound and discover the world of emergency services through engaging activities.<\/p>\n

The event will feature a flag raising, the national anthem, and a performance by the Geelong Scottish Dancers.<\/p>\n

The Free Family Fun Day will be held at Rippleside Park, 42 Bell Parade, Rippleside, from from 11am-4pm.<\/p>\n

In Lara, the Lara Lions Club is putting on Australia Day free breakfast and entertainment.<\/p>\n

No bookings are required at the free community event – all you need to do is turn up on the day as all are welcome.<\/p>\n

It will be held at Lara Sporting Club, 4 Mill Road, Lara, from 8 to 11am.<\/p>\n

The Geelong Branch of the Libertarian Party will hold an Australia Day barbecue at the Eastern Park barbecue area from 12.30pm onwards.<\/p>\n

Barbecue fare provided, bring your own drinks.<\/p>\n

In North Geelong, Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative will host a dawn service to commemorate a Day of Mourning at the co-operative’s main site at 62 Morgan Street.<\/p>\n

“While January 26 is a day of mourning, it is also a day to mark the survival of ongoing traditions and cultures, and the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” the co-operative’s Facebook event page states.<\/p>\n

The event will begin with a mob only space for reflection between 5.30 to 6.30am, with allies and all other community members invited to attend, participate and listen to speakers between 6.30 to 7.30am.<\/p>\n

Breakfast (bacon and egg rolls) and coffee\/tea will be provided.<\/p>\n

No RSVP is required, but attendees are reminded that parking is very limited so people should not park in areas that may block access for surrounding residences and businesses.<\/p>\n
