{"id":89938,"date":"2024-01-23T04:00:39","date_gmt":"2024-01-22T17:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/?p=89938"},"modified":"2024-01-22T17:06:25","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T06:06:25","slug":"train-exhibition-on-track-for-another-bumper-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/geelongtimes\/news\/train-exhibition-on-track-for-another-bumper-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Train exhibition on track for another bumper year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE miniature railway community will be out in force at Geelong West Town Hall next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The Corio Model Railway Club will welcome over 500 visitors to its annual two-day exhibition from January 27 to 28, the organisation&#8217;s biggest weekend of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Corio Model Railway Club president Bruce Mellett said the exhibition has been an annual club event for 49 years, consistently filling out its allocated capacity at the Town Hall on Pakington Street.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is our biggest event every year, by far actually, the club takes a lot of pride in putting the exhibition together each year,&#8221; Mr Mellett said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s only a few miniature railway clubs around the region, but for us to be going at it since our formation over 50 years and making this exhibition possible, is great achievement for this club and we always look forward to it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 687px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/01\/IMG_0178_62492.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"687\" height=\"458\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corio Model Railway Club is lined with detailed layouts with a plethora of model trains and carriages.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition provides a complete insight into the hobby of model railroading, from the artistic side of painting locomotives to creating layouts for home and club use.<\/p>\n<p>It will also provide a hub-like atmosphere for enthusiasts from all over Victoria and adjoining states to exchange ideas, sell parts, and draw inspiration from like-minded individuals.<\/p>\n<p>There will be over a dozen exhibitors showcasing their modelling skills across both days from 10am to 5pm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s also a great opportunity for us as a club to recruit new or interested members,&#8221; club secretary Des Kelly said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are always happy to share with exhibition guests what we offer as a club and talk about the exciting things happening at our base at Bakers Oval.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Kelly explained the club started as a small-time organisation in North Geelong in the 1970s, before becoming incorporated as an association in 1984 featuring mostly retired community members, but also families with young children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 675px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2024\/01\/IMG_0201_62526.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"675\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Corio Model Railway Club president Bruce Mellett says the exhibition is the club&#8217;s biggest event of the year.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve always been a club consisting of people of all walks of life and we encourage anyone interested to take up the hobby to reach out to us via email or drop in during the week.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adult entry to the exhibition is set at $10, children under 14 years of age can get in for $5, while a family consisting of two adults and two children under 14 can get in for $20.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on club memberships, email secretary@coriomrc.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE miniature railway community will be out in force at Geelong West Town Hall next weekend.
