GEELONG Disability Expo is on this month and organisers and are on the hunt for passionate and friendly volunteers.<\/p>\n

This year’s expo, My Future My Choice, aims to empower attendees by providing information on a range of products and services, allowing people with a disability to make choices for their own future in a space that is open and welcoming.<\/p>\n

Geelong Disability Expo Marketing Communications Manager, Yvette Thomson, said organisers hoped to get local community members to volunteer at the free two-day event.<\/p>\n

Disability Expo’s Head of Events, Kathryn Carey, said volunteers could assist by meeting and greeting people at the entrance, signing attendees in, handing out programs and showbags.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“People with a disability, their families and their carers have an opportunity to come to an expo where they can talk to experts, touch and feel equipment, talk to service providers and government agencies in a face-to-face environment,” Ms Carey said.<\/p>\n

“That’s really critical, especially for people with a disability, often they find using the technology can be challenging, when they’re in the expo they can have a one-on-one conversation, they want to be able to ask the person their questions and have those questions answered.”<\/p>\n

The expo is on February 23 and 24 at the Geelong Arena from 9am to 3pm on both days, with a low sensory hour running for the first hour on Saturday.<\/p>\n
