Overflow<\/em> is taking the stage at the Geelong Arts Centre with a history-making one-woman play.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Darlinghurst Theatre Company will bring their performance to the stage from February 8-10.<\/p>\n

The performance will be Australia’s first ever theatre production crafted by an all trans and gender-non-conforming cast and creative, bringing trans experiences into the spotlight.<\/p>\n

The one-woman play is written by Travis Alabanza (Burgerz), an internationally acclaimed writer and leading trans voice, sharing a story about sisterhood and public toilets.<\/p>\n

Overflow<\/em> is led by Thea Raveneau (Rosie), who gives a tour of women’s bathrooms, questioning who’s allowed in and who isn’t.<\/p>\n

The 70-minute performance focuses on complex conversations about overlooked trans women in the feminist movement and wider society.<\/p>\n

Geelong Arts Centre chief executive officer and creative director Joel McGuinness said Geelong Arts Centre was a beacon of inclusion, fostering safe spaces for LGBTQIA+ and gender-diverse communities.<\/p>\n

“By embracing diverse narratives, we send a powerful message that art transcends boundaries, celebrating the beauty of every unique story in a welcoming and affirming environment that breeds creativity,” he said.<\/p>\n

Geelong Arts Centre head of programming Penny McCabe said the centre was committed to showcasing diverse stories in its programming.<\/p>\n

“Through celebrating diverse narratives, we aim to reflect the spectrum of human experiences, fostering empathy, understanding\u00a0and connection among our audiences,” she said.<\/p>\n

Overflow<\/em> comes to Geelong following highly praised performances at the Sydney Festival 2024 and the Midsumma Festival at Arts Centre Melbourne.<\/p>\n
